Campaign Announcements
For Our Veterans
Welcome to the Official Goldthorpe for Congress Website

Washington isn't listening to the American people:

  • We want secure U.S. borders—yet our troops patrol foreign borders instead.
  • We want less taxes—yet Washington perpetually demands more.
  • We want limited government—yet we get bloated bureaucracy.
  • We want a stable dollar—yet we allow the Fed to devalue our money freely.

"Our government has grown beyond its constitutional boundaries and the American people are suffering for it.  America is overtaxed and over regulated.  The answers to the problems facing America today cannot be found in more legislation and bigger government—both are roadblocks to prosperity.  I believe in the traditional Republican platform of small government and lower taxes.  We need to allow the free-market and the economy of America to grow without governmental hindrance.  The lumbering mass of federal control should never be mistaken for a benefactor."

Scenes from our announcement at the Perry Hotel in Petoskey Michigan. Thanks to all the above and below the bridge supporters for participating in the event! It was a blast!
Michigan's 1st District

Our district is the second largest in the nation.  Covering nearly 25,000 square miles, 1st District residents understand the value of land.  More than most Americans, we should be alarmed by the government seizure of private property.  The Supreme Court recently ruled that "eminent domain" permits the government to confiscate land to later sell to private industry.  Such government re-distribution of wealth is never equitable and gives the government yet another means to tamper with the free market.  Furthermore even if landowners were always given fair compensation, it is not the government's right to seize and sell private property!  Property right is the right to keep what you own.

As your representative, I will oppose these arbitrary seizures of privately-owned land.

Ron Paul Endorses Linda Goldthorpe   - 05/ 3/08

"I wholeheartedly endorse Linda Goldthorpe in the race for the Republican Nomination in Michigan's First Congressional District.  Linda is a unique candidate who understands the need to limit government, restore the economy, and reduce federal spending.  Linda recognizes that truly limited government secures our nation, protects our liberties and leaves us with the financial resources necessary for prosperity.  I believe we need Linda Goldthorpe in Congress to help move forward with the fight for freedom."

—Ron Paul
Congressman, conservative luminary

For Our Veterans

I may be a small-government advocate, but one area where we can never afford to scrimp is in assuring the health of our veterans.  For those whose sacrifice has protected our country, we owe it to them to assure them that any injuries they sustain on duty—physical or psychological—are fully covered and funded well enough to provide them with the best care available.

I do not believe that government-controlled medicine is cost-effective, and I would prefer that medical care for our veterans is covered by a simple, reliable reimbursement plan, instead of a complex bureaucracy that lessens choice and leaves our veterans at the mercy of government doctors.  But, in any case, more care is better than less.  No expense should be spared for our veterans' medical care.

Another important point on this issue: when veterans' care is under-funded, it discourages people from enlisting.  Our military has been allowing felons to enlist, out of desperation for recruits.  If we fund our veterans' medical care, and thus encourage more people to enlist, we will have more high-quality soldiers.  In the long run, this may save more money than it costs.  So providing comprehensive, quality medical care to our veterans is not only the compassionate policy— it's practical, too.
